The Thomson Bible app and website
Privacy Policy
The Thomson Bible app for iPhone and iPad, and this website, are made by Calvin Breda and Joseph Breda (“we”). We built them to be read, not to watch you read.
In short
No accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking, in the app or on the website.
We don’t collect your personal information, and the app sends nothing about you anywhere.
Your notes, reading plans, settings and place in the Bible stay on your own device.
The iPhone and iPad app
Nothing collected, nothing sent
The app has no accounts and no sign-in. It has no ads, no analytics, no tracking and no third-party code that collects data. The one outside library it uses, ONNX Runtime, only runs the narration voice on your device. The app doesn’t collect or send any personal information, to us or to anyone else.
What stays on your device
So the app can remember things for you, it saves these on your iPhone or iPad, and only there:
- your notes;
- your reading plans and the days you’ve ticked off;
- your settings, such as text size, appearance and your chosen narrator;
- where you were reading and listening.
We never see any of it. Deleting the app deletes it. If you back up your device to iCloud or a computer, your backup may include this app data, as it does for any app. That backup is yours and is handled by Apple, not by us.
Narration
Michael’s narration is recorded and comes with the app. The other narrators are spoken by your device itself, using a voice model that also comes with the app. No audio or text is sent to a server, and listening works without the internet.
Reading-plan reminders
Reminders are off unless you turn them on for a reading plan. When you do, the app asks your permission first. Reminders are local notifications, scheduled by your device. Nothing goes through a server. You can turn them off in the plan, or in your device’s Settings app.
Copying and sharing
If you copy or share a verse, or share the link to this website, it goes only where you choose to send it.
Links you tap
The app only uses the internet when you tap a link: the Support link (Buy Me a Coffee), YouTube and this website. These open outside the app, in Safari or in that service’s own app if you have it. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
Apple’s crash reports
If you’ve chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device’s settings (Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements), Apple may send us anonymous crash reports. That choice is yours, made in iOS; the app adds nothing to those reports.
This website
No accounts, analytics, ads or cookies
You don’t sign in, and nothing on this site tracks you. The site sets no cookies.
Your reading preferences
The reader remembers your theme, text size, layout and the place you were reading. It keeps these in your browser’s local storage, on your own device. They are never sent to us. Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes them.
The font, from Google
This site loads the Gelasio font from Google Fonts. When it loads, your browser connects to Google’s servers, so Google receives your IP address. Google’s handling of that data is described in Google’s Privacy Policy.
Hosting
The site is hosted by Netlify. Like any web host, Netlify may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, the pages requested and the time, to run and protect the service. See Netlify’s Privacy Statement.
Videos and other links
This site doesn’t embed any YouTube videos or players. The video picture on the homepage is an image stored on this site. The YouTube, Buy Me a Coffee and STEP Bible links open those sites in a new tab, and their own privacy policies apply there.
Children
The app and website are suitable for all ages. They collect no personal information from anyone, children included.
Changes to this policy
If anything here changes, we’ll post the new policy on this page and update the date at the top.
